Choose One Step!
At this point, maybe you are wondering: How can a bunch of people doing a lot of little things in an inconsistent manner possibly bring about real change? Ah, but there’s no doubt that it can, and it will. Because it’s not so much about the quantity, or manner, or method, etc. It’s about the doing. It’s about the energy shift caused by endless small actions (and the great feelings that invariably accompany them) that provoke infinite ripple effects that keep growing and growing and growing… Until a huge momentum builds up and explodes into vital change and transformation. Simple, huh? This is already happening everywhere, by the way; can’t you just feel it? Gives me goose bumps just to think about it.
So, here's my suggestion: Start by looking through the links under the different themes and pick one; out of that link, pick one action to follow (say, buying eco-friendly light bulbs), and put that one into practice for a while (maybe a few days, a week or a month; or longer, if you need), until you feel ready to add more to your list. Don't overwhelm yourself. If you do feel like picking several things and starting to change the world right away, go ahead and follow your instincts. If at any point you become overwhelmed, try not to get discouraged and drop everything; instead, remember you can always cut back or change your choices. I mean, it's not like there's a quota to meet or anything.
Or, better yet, create your own list. Just think of something that you would like to be doing to help. Look around your home, or think about your family, friends, school, work, hobbies, community, or whatever you connect the most with. The choices are virtually limitless. If there's anything you feel that needs to be done, something you can make a difference at, even in very small ways, go for it!
A friend of mine, for instance, decided that her way to contribute is by recycling toxic boyfriends. She figures that dumping them back in the dating pool would be bad for the environment, so she does her best to detox them from all their emotional poison before letting them go. Once they are cleaned out and recharged, she releases them for a while, until they need to come back in for a tune-up. That way, she's also not taking fresh opportunities away from other women. Of course, her secret reason for reusing them (in her own words) is to appease her religious guilt about having too many different partners...
All joking aside: Just remember that even a tiny step is better than doing nothing. And don't forget to HAVE FUN!
